Worker electrocuted in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) - An electric worker was electrocuted to death while working on an active electric pole at Sukdara area under Piljong Union in Fakirhat upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Sabuj Sardar, 26, son of Islam Sardar of Sabekdanga village in Karapara Union of Bagerhat Sadar upazila. He was an employee of a contracting firm named Sami Enterprise.

Police and locals said the accident occurred around 12 noon when Sabuj was working on a live pole under Bagerhat Sadar Palli Bidyut. He got electrocuted and remained hanging from the wire. 

On information, police and a team of the Fire Service rushed to the spot, conducted a two-hour rescue operation and brought the body down. 

Ananda Kumar Kundu, Deputy General Manager of the Fakirhat Zonal Office of Palli Bidyut Samity, said that the matter has been reported to the headquarters. 

Fakirhat Fire Service's acting Station Officer Shahjahan Mia said the accident occurred as work was being carried out on a live transmission line.
    
Abdur Razzak Mir, Officer-in-Charge of Fakirhat Model Thana, confirmed the incident, saying the body has been handed over to the family upon completion of legal procedures.

Sushanta Roy, General Manager of Bagerhat Palli Bidyut Samity, said contractor workers are required to inform Palli Bidyut before beginning work so that the feeder line can be shut down. The accident occurred due to violation of that rule, he added.
