DHAKA, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS)- Former national captain Mohammad Ashraful is set to supervise Barishal Division in the upcoming National Cricket League (NCL), said BCB tournament committee chairman Akram Khan.

"We've have taken Ashraful as the coach of Barishal. He himself has shown that interest," Akram said here today. "He said he wants to become a coach. Since he played for Barisal for two years, we gave him the opportunity to guide the team.'

Considered as the first poster boy of Bangladesh cricket Mohammad Ashraful has entered the coaching profession after retiring from cricket. He worked for Rangpur Riders in the country's most popular franchise league BPL.

Akram said they are trying to rope in the former players as coach to guide the different teams in domestic level.

"Ashraful played for Bangladesh for a long time and there are the players like Selim, Rokon or Aftab... we will also discuss with them. If they are free, interested... we will involve them here. Our cricketers will benefit from them," Akram opined.

The conflict among the cricketers of Barisal division has recently hogged the limelight.

Akram said they will monitor the incidents very seriously.

Expressing his shock over the incident, he said, "Such discussions do not happen with any other division team. As we are concerned, they are not happy with the manager, not happy with the coach, not happy with the captain. There is conflict among the players. This should not happen.'

"So we have discussed it for a long time and decided that we will monitor it very seriously. If we see that the game is being spoiled or the reputation is being damaged, then we will take action."

The BCB will have a meeting with the divisional managers as they will give them some guidelines, said Akram.

"In the next four-five days, we will call the managers of each division and inform them about it. We will also give them guidelines so that everything is fine. Even then, if they fail to do their job, then we will not allow them to do this work in the future.'

Akram also spoke on regional cricket, saying that they are organizing cricket in various districts to give it a momentum.

"This time we are holding a regional T20 in Chattogram and it will start on August 27. There are 11 districts in this divisions," he said.

"If we get two or three good cricketers from that tournament, they can also play for Chattogram Division. This is also the plan of our board president and accordingly we are holding the first regional T20."
