DHAKA, Aug 3, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) coach Mizanur Rahman Babul believes opener Naim Sheikh’s likings to play attacking shot prevented him from scoring big on his return to national team.

Naim found his place in the national fold after three years following a consistent performance in the domestic circuit but he couldn’t justify his selection.

He played three T20 matches after his return to the national team—one against Sri Lanka and two against Pakistan. While against Sri Lanka he made 32 not out, his strike rate put him under question. Against Pakistan, he made just 3 and 10.

Babul said Naim played all those matches on slow wicket, which was not ideal to play shots.

“Naim Sheikh usually likes to play shots. The kind of cricket he plays, he may not be able to do so well on slow wickets (if he plays attacking cricket),” Babul said here today.

“As a cricketer, he has to adapt. He has played for the national team, he is very experienced, he played because he is a good cricketer. In international cricket, you have to adapt on any kind of wicket,” he added.

Babul also spoke about pacer Mushfik Hasan who returned to competitive cricket with the match between HP and Bangladesh A in Chattogram after recovering from his injury.

According to coach Babul, a pace bowler like Mushfik is not often seen in Bangladesh.

“Mushfik is our future star. We have very few such well-built pace bowlers. His bowling skills are very good,” Babul said.

“However, he has just come from a long injury-forced lay-off. So we are monitoring him very well. Now he though seems super fit."

Babul also said, "His attitude, his body language is excellent. The way he steps up is nice to see and gives his 100 percent in his bowling and fielding.”
