BEIJING, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - China's world champion long jumper Wang Jianan has been cleared of doping after hospital video camera footage showed he had inadvertently inhaled a banned substance.

Wang became the first Asian man to win the world championships long jump gold when he leapt 8.36 metres at world championships in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022.

The China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) said this week that Wang, 29, had not been negligent or at fault after failing an out-of-competition test last November and would not be banned.

Wang had inhaled particles of Terbutaline, used to prevent breathing problems, while accompanying a relative to hospital for nebuliser treatment.

Hospital security camera footage and patient records helped investigators track Wang's movements in the hours before his drug test, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said in a statement this week.

AIU investigators said they had conducted a "comprehensive review of the documents and the CCTV video files" shared by China's anti-doping agency and "concluded that there was nothing suspicious about them".
