DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS)-Hobart Hurricanes Kept their hopes to play the
final of Big Bash League (BBL) alive following their breathtaking 3-run
victory over Melbourne Stars on DLS method in knock out match at Bellerive
Oval in Hobart today.
The match was hit by rain several times before Hobart laughed last to move
into the Challenger phase, where they will play against Sydney Sixers for a
berth in the final. Perth Scorchers had already made it to the final.
Due to rain interruption, the match was reduced to 10 overs and Hobart who
were put into bat first managed to score 114-5, thanks to Beau Webster's 26
ball-47, a knock laced three fours and as many sixes. Nikhil Chaudhary was
the other notable scorer with 24.
After Hobart's innings, the rain again intervened to reduce the match further
as Melbourne got revised target of chasing 85 runs in seven overs.
They however were able to put up 81-4 before losing the game by three runs.
Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain who remained the integral part of
Hobart squad since his Big Bash debut played a key role with the ball once
again.
With Melbourne needing 37 runs in the last two overs, skipper Ben McDermott
kept faith on Rishad and trusted him for the crucial penultimate over. Rishad
repaid the trust by conceding just 11 runs, leaving Melbourne a need of an
improbable 26 runs in the last overs.
Melbourne batters came down heavily on Mitchel Owen and scored 22 runs,
leaving then still short of four runs for a victory.
Rishad, however, didn't take any wicket but finished with 24 in two overs.
