National sports awardee athlete Mimu passes away

DHAKA, March 14, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) former executive committee member, former deputy director (training) of BKSP and national sports awardee Shamima Sattar Mimu passed away on Friday night, said a press release.

The former athlete breathed her last due to cardiac arrest at around 11pm at her residence in the capital.

She served the BAF for a long time as an executive committee member. She also played important roles as a coach and judge in various national and international athletics competitions and programmes.

Her contribution to the development of sports in Bangladesh, especially athletics, will be remembered forever.

The BAF president, general secretary, executive committee members, officials, coaches, athletes and all concerned expressed deep shock and sorrow at her death.

They also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
