DHAKA, Apr 24, 2026 (BSS) - Abahani Limited edged past Fortis Football Club by a solitary goal in the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla today.

Abahani took the lead as early as the 1st minute through an own goal by Fortis defender Mithun Chowdhury. Sri Lankan goalkeeper Sujan Perera and Mithun both attempted to clear the ball, but a lack of coordination resulted in the ball deflecting off Mithun and finding the back of the net.

Despite falling behind early, Fortis Football Club tried hard to stage a comeback but failed to find an equaliser in the remaining minutes. Abahani also could not add to their tally for the rest of the match.

Fortis launched several attacking moves and came close to scoring, with a late attempt going just wide of the Abahani goalpost.

The narrow victory took the traditional sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited to 28 points from 14 matches, level with league leaders Bashundhara Kings. Fortis Football Club, placed third, remained on 25 points from the same number of matches.

Meanwhile, three more matches are scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday). Fakirerpool Young Men's Club will face Bangladesh Police Football Club at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj, PWD Sports Club will take on Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur, and Bashundhara Kings will meet Brothers Union at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital.
