DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh created history by sealing their second victory of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup as they cruised to a 23-run victory over Pakistan in a Group A match in Southampton on Sunday.

The victory marked the first time Bangladesh has won two matches in a single edition of the Women's T20 World Cup.

Defending a modest total of 123, Bangladesh staged a remarkable comeback after Pakistan made a solid start, reaching 39 without loss in the chase. The tide turned when left-arm spinner Nahida Akhtar struck twice to remove both openers and trigger a batting collapse.

Gull Feroza scored 23 off 18 balls before being caught by Sobhana Mostary off Nahida, while Muneeba Ali made 25 from 30 deliveries before becoming Nahida's second victim.

Ayesha Zafar attempted to keep Pakistan in contention with 11 off 12 balls, but her dismissal by Sanjida Akter triggered the collapse. Sanjida claimed three crucial wickets as Pakistan struggled against Bangladesh's disciplined bowling attack.

Apart from the top three batters, only Fatima Sana reached double figures, scoring 10 runs from 17 balls. Pakistan eventually finished on 100-8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Earlier, Bangladesh made a shaky start after electing to bat first, losing three wickets for just 13 runs. The innings was revived through a 35-run partnership between Sobhana Mostary and captain Nigar Sultana Joty.

Sobhana contributed 22 off 19 balls before her dismissal, while Joty anchored the innings with 36 from 38 deliveries. Ritu Moni added seven runs but Bangladesh's scoring rate slowed during the middle overs.

The late charge came from Shorna Akter, who hammered an unbeaten 22 ball-39, helping Bangladesh post a competitive 123-6.

With two wins from three matches, Bangladesh moved to third place in Group A with four points. They will face India and South Africa in their remaining group-stage fixtures as they continue their pursuit of a semifinal berth.
