HABIGANJ, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - A CNG-run autorickshaw driver was killed after being struck by a speeding truck while crossing the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Nabiganj upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sohel Mia, 45, son of Jabbar Ullah of Kurshi village under Kurshi union of the upazila.

According to police, around 7 am Sohel Mia parked his vehicle near Aushkandi Kibria Chattar area and attempted to cross the highway to have tea. At that moment, a fish-laden truck traveling from Dhaka to Sylhet hit him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police seized the truck involved in the accident shortly after the incident.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Highway Police Station Md. Anisur Rahman said that necessary legal action is underway.
