DHAKA, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh batter Tawhid Hridoy has joined Jaffna Kings in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL), replacing fellow Bangladesh cricketer Taskin Ahmed, tournament organizers confirmed.

Taskin withdrew from the tournament ahead of Bangladesh's upcoming tour of Australia, opting not to risk injury before the international assignment.

Another Bangladesh pacer, Hasan Mahmud who was recruited by Colombo Kaps, has also left the LPL and returned home. A new Bangladesh pacer Ripon Mondal has already replaced him in the Colombo.

Jaffna Kings have made a mixed start to their campaign, winning two and losing two of their first four matches. The franchise is currently at the bottom of the points table and is scheduled to face Kandy Royals later on Sunday.

Hridoy is returning to a familiar franchise, having represented Jaffna Kings during the 2023 season. He scored 155 runs in six matches that year before moving to Dambulla in 2024, where he managed just one run in three appearances.

The right-handed batter has endured a modest run of form in recent T20 internationals, with his highest score in Bangladesh's last three matches being 24. However, he ended the recent home series against Australia with a half-century, providing a timely boost ahead of his return to the LPL.

Jaffna will hope Hridoy's arrival strengthens its middle order as the team looks to improve its position in the standings during the remainder of the tournament.
