Notun Kuri to pick talented players from grassroots: Land Minister

RAJSHAHI, May 17, 2026 (BSS)- Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said the Notun Kuri Sports Competition has been organized to hunt talented players from grassroots level. 

With that goal, the hidden sports talents from children and adolescents will be identified and groomed up through proper training.


He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of Notun Kuri Sports Competition at Rajshahi’s Muktijuddho Smriti Stadium here today.
 
The minister said, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to take sports to the doorstep of the people. Through such initiatives, talented athletes will emerge from every region. 

Sports are not just entertainment, it’s a vital medium for the physical and mental development of children, he said.
 
The land minister urged the guardians to encourage their children to participate in sports alongside their studies. From today’s competitors, future national and international level athletes will emerge, he said.
 
The regional-level competition has been organized by the Divisional Administration and the District Sports Office. 

As children of different schools lined up in rows in their uniforms, parents and spectators filled the gallery. 

With national flags, banners, festoons, and sports decorations, a vibrant and festive atmosphere was created across the stadium.
 
Divisional Commissioner Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid presided over the inaugural function.  Local MP Abu Sayeed Chand was present as special guest.
