DHAKA, Nov 22, 2025 (BSS)- Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has said the holding a free, fair and acceptable election is the only duty of the Election Commission.

The CEC said this at a workshop titled 'Building Bridges: Regional Electoral Governance and Citizen Observation Exchange' organized by the Asian Network for Free Elections at Hotel Lakeshore Heights in the capital today.

The CEC said the foremost condition for conducting a perfect election is the rule of law. "No matter how many challenges come, we will uphold the promise we made to the public to conduct a transparent and acceptable election,” he said. 

“We will be able to fulfill the commitments we have made to the nation and the world,” he hoped.

“The government is also committed to hold a fair election. Political parties are also saying that they want a fair election. This is an added advantage for us,” he added.

The CEC said, “Observers will watch the election. Observers and journalists will be our CC cameras. We are all working together to conduct a free, fair, and participatory election."

He hoped that everyone will behave responsibly, carefully and maturely.

Regarding the referendum, the CEC said, "You have seen four questions concerning the referendum. You have to say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the four points. 

Referendum Law will be enacted next week, he said adding that the referendum is another challenge for the EC. 

“If the referendum law is passed, it will be stipulated within the law. The procedure of referendum will also be stated within it,” he said. 

Regarding IT-supported postal voting for expatriate Bangladeshi votes, the CEC said they are leaving no stone unturned to simplify the voting process. 

Referring to the challenge of AI, the CEC said, "Technological advancement is both a blessing and a curse. As technology advances, miscreants are becoming more powerful. They are more skilled, faster, and greater in number than us. They can use advanced technology, including AI, to create chaos in the electoral process. This is a major headache for us," the CEC noted.
