DHAKA, Mar 11, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam today said the government is taking initiatives to increase the use of jute products in workplaces as well as in various sectors across the country.

"We are working to expand the use of jute bags in different activities of the ministries related to disaster management, agriculture, food and commerce," he told journalists after visiting the Jute and Multipurpose Jute Products Fair at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.

The minister said the fair showcased the wide variety of jute-based products being produced across the country, reflecting the potential of the sector.

Replying to a question from journalists, Shariful Alam said the government plans to support and encourage entrepreneurs, particularly in the rural areas, which will help create employment opportunities and contribute to economic growth.

"The rural people of the country have preserved the tradition of the 'golden fibre.' We will take steps to address the challenges so that this heritage can move forward," he added.

Textiles and Jute Ministry Secretary Bilkis Jahan Rimi and Managing Director of the Jute Diversification and Promotion Centre (JDPC) Md. Zahid Hossain, among others, were present.

Earlier, the state minister visited different stalls at the fair, praised the products and assured entrepreneurs of government support in resolving their problems.

The Multi-purpose Jute Products Fair 2026 has been organised by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy marking National Jute Day 2026.

A total of 72 stalls have been set up at the fair, most of which display products made by entrepreneurs trained under the JDPC. The fair will continue until March 14.
