BAGERHAT, Mar 11, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court today demolished seven illegally operating Paja system brick kilns in Sadar Upazila of the district and destroyed around three to four lakh raw bricks during a drive against illegal brick fields.

The drive was conducted around 2:30 pm under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Momtaz Begum of the Department of Environment's Khulna Divisional Office.

Members of Bagerhat District Police and Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence took part in the operation initiated by Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Bagerhat District Office Asadur Rahman.

During the drive in Baburhat Bazar and Satgachia areas of Gotapara Union, the authorities demolished seven brick kilns, extinguished the fires in the kilns and destroyed the raw bricks using excavators and water.

Officials said the kilns had been operating without environmental clearance and were using banned fuel wood in violation of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 and the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act, 1995.

Deputy Director Asadur Rahman said such drives against illegal brick kilns would continue in the future to protect the environment.
