Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Jan 2, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
 
DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, declined by 18.5 points to settle at 5,200 points as against 5,218 points in the previous trading session.
 
Apparently, trading activities remained stagnant with market turnover in DSE further decreasing by 5.1% to Taka  3.1 billion as against Taka 3.3 billion in the previous session.
 
On the sectoral front, Bank (26.8%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (13.4%) and Textile (10.1%) sectors. Most of the sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which Jute (-2.5%), IT (-1.7%) and Food (-1.5%) exerted the most corrections, while Bank (1.6%) and Ceramic (0.5%) exhibited some gains on the bourse today. Out of the 397 issues traded, 98 advanced, 225 declined and 74 remained unchanged.
 
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 20.9 and 40.3 points, respectively.
