Two farmers killed in lightning strike in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH, Oct 5, 2025 (BSS) - Two farmers were killed in separate lightning strikes in Sadar and Shailkupa upazilas in the district while working in the field around 8 am today.

The deceased are Shimul Biswas, 28, son of Shamsher Biswas of Armukhi village of Sadar upazila and Hurmat Sheikh, 55, of Shekhra village of Shailkupa.

The incident took place in Armukhi village of Sadar upazila and Shekhra village of Shailkupa upazila.

Locals said Shimul Biswas, a farmer of Armukhi village of Naldanga union of Sadar upazila, was working on his land in the morning. 

He was returning home when a sudden rain started in the morning. He died on the spot due to the lightning strike. Later, his relatives took his body home.

In other incident, farmer Hurmat Sheikh of Sheikhra village in Nityanandapur union of Shailkupa upazila while working in the field in the morning was struck by lightning on his way home amid rain. At that time, locals took him home and he died there.

Sadar Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun and Shailkupa Police Station OC Masum Khan confirmed the separate incidents.
