19 shops gutted in Khagrachhari’a Jaliapara

KHAGRACHHARI, Oct 5, 2025 (BSS) - Nineteen shops have been gutted as a devastating fire broke out in the Ismail Market area of Jaliapara Bazar in Guimara Upazila of Khagrachhari at wee hours of today.  

Being informed, two units of Ramgarh and Matiranga Fire Service reached the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of locals.

 However, by then all the 19 shops in the entire market had burnt to ashes.

Shop owners claim that the fire caused a loss of at least Taka 2 crore. The burnt shops included various types of business establishments including oil shops, motor garages, hotels, furniture, electronics and grocery stores.

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be known, the fire service and local businessmen believe that the fire may have originated from an electric short circuit.

UNO Irin Akhter said the upazila administration will provide all possible assistance to the victims. 
She praised the immediate response and courageous role of the Hill VDP and VDP members.
