Stocks end week in positive territory

DHAKA, Jan 03, 2025 (BSS) - Stocks ended the first week of the year in positive territory as investors favored taking positions in sector- specific issues.
 
DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 15.2 points, or 0.3 percent, to settle at 5,200 points. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, rose 4 points to finish at 1,931. But, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the week with 12 points down to close at 1,155.
 
Investors participation in the market also increased by 18.6 percent to Taka 3,481 million as compared to Taka 2,935 million in the previous week.
 
Investors mostly active Bank sector (17.3 percent), followed by Pharma sector (16.9 percent ) and Engineering sector (8.8 percent) with Bank sector (3.4 percent) being the highest gainer and Jute sector (-4.9 percent) being the biggest loser.
 
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the week up with its major CASPI index ending 16.86 points higher at 14,552.31.
