DHAKA, Jan 4, 2025 (BSS) -  Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) will start selling eggs and chicken at fair prices from January 12 at 20 points in the capital as part of its smart market management initiative to stabilise the prices of these two commodities in  the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadan.

BPA President Sumon Hawlader made the announcement at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital today.

“We’ll gradually expand the initiative to 100 points, selling eggs, frozen chicken, and other agricultural products at a limited profit,” he said.

Sumon informed that skilled personnel and entrepreneurs would be incorporated into the supply chain of BPA like students from the University of Dhaka who have interest to work in the agricultural sector as well as to work on the producer-consumer relationship.

The BPA President said this initiative would be more effective through the skills and enthusiasm of the interested individuals, which would expedite further the development of the country's agricultural sector and market management.

Highlighting a 10-point charter of demands before the government, Sumon said that the marginal farmers ensure 80 percent of the country’s eggs and chicken production, but corporate groups contribute only 20 percent.

BPA Vice President Bappi Kumar Dey, General Secretary Md. Ilias Khandaker, Joint General Secretary Md. Kausar Ahmed, Organizing Secretary Md. Iqbal Hossain, Office Secretary Md. Mejbaul Haque were present, among others, on the occasion.

In addition, all members of the central committee as well as a large number of marginal farmers producing eggs and chickens from all districts and upazilas were present.
