Bashir seeks more investment from Bangladeshi businessmen in UK

DHAKA, Jan 05, 2025 (BSS) - Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin has urged the Bangladeshi businessmen staying in the UK to make more investment in Bangladesh and thus contribute to the country’s development.

He also put emphasis on the role of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in the UK in strengthening the commercial ties between the two countries.

“Invest in Bangladesh and thus contribute to the country’s development. Your role is very important in enhancing trade relations between the two nations,” he said.

The commerce adviser made the call when leaders of the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI) met him at his ministry office at Bangladesh Secretariat today, said a commerce ministry press release.

The adviser invited investments in jute products, tourism, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications, assuring that Bangladesh currently offers a favourable investment environment with no barrier.

He affirmed the government's commitment to ensuring all necessary facilities for the investors.

Discussions in the meeting also focused on bilateral trade relations and investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, the UKBCCI representatives expressed their interest for investing in Bangladesh’s National Tea Board, the state-owned telecom sector, and artificial intelligence in education.

They also proposed for establishing a special agricultural zone, an agriculture-based export processing zone (EPZ), to boost seafood exports, food processing, and green farming facilities.

UKBCCI Chairman Iqbal Ahmed, President MG Maula Miah, Founding President Bazlur Rashid, and UK House of Commons Member of Parliament Dr Rupa Huq spoke, among others.

Commerce Secretary (routine charge) M Abdur Rahim was also present.
