DHAKA, Jan 05, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged further due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of DSE, declined 34.4 points to settle at 5,165 points as against 5,200 points in the previous trading session. Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 11.35 points to finish at 1,919.62 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 6.98 points to close at 1,148.12.

Market analysts observed that the indices remained downbeat for the majority of today’s session after the market had a delayed opening due to a technical glitch on the DSE server.

The DSE started trading at 11:30am instead of 10am this morning due to a technical glitch. "Due to configuration-related issues in the centralised Order Management System (OMS) DSE FlexTP, trading activities at the stock exchange were delayed today," said a DSE press release signed by deputy general manager Shafiqur Rahman.

Meanwhile, trading activities remained stagnant with market turnover in DSE marginally decreasing by 0.6 percent to Taka 3.12 billion as against Taka 3.14 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Food (22.4 percent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (19.7 percent) and Pharma (10.3 percent) sectors.

Almost all the sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which Jute (-3.4 percent), Service (-2.3 percent) and Financial Institution (-1.9 percent) exerted the most corrections, while only miscellaneous (0.2 percent) exhibited slight gains on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 73 advanced, 268 declined and 56 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 54.4 and 92.1 points, respectively.
