BFIU asks banks to share account details of 21 journalists

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has asked banks and non-bank financial institutions to share account details of 21 journalists.

The BFIU, in a letter, today instructed all the banks and non-bank financial institutions to provide information about various accounts held by these individuals and their companies or organisations.

The list of those whose bank account details were summoned today includes Saiful Alam, editor of the Daily Jugantor; Pranab Saha, head of news at DBC News; Hasan Zahid Tushar, former deputy press secretary to the prime minister; M Shamsur Rahman, editor-in-chief and CEO of Independent TV; Mamun Abdullah, head of news at Independent TV, and Animesh Kar, special correspondent of Independent TV.

The list also includes - Bangladesh Pratidin's Managing Editor Md Ruhul Amin Russell, Bangladesh Pratidin's Deputy Editor Mahmud Hasan, Daily Khola Kagoj senior reporter Zafar Ahmed (currently working at BanglaNews), Daily Jatiya Orthoniti Editor MG Kibria Chowdhury, Amader Somoy.com and Amader Orthoniti Chief Reporter Deepak Chowdhury, Ekushey TV's Head of Input Akhil Kumar Poddar, Ekattor TV journalist Jhumur Bari, Ekushey Sangbad Editor Ziadur Rahman, Daily Kalbela's special correspondent Angur Nahar Monti and My TV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi.

The financial intelligence agency, earlier on December 30, sought the bank account details of 12 journalists.
