Stocks perform mixed

DHAKA, Jan 8, 2025 (BSS) - Stocks today performed mixed with major indices finishing flat.  

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), declined 5.8 points to settle at 5,185 points as against 5,191 points in the previous trading session.

Apparently, trading activities remained stagnant with total turnover in DSE again decreasing by 28.2 percent to Taka 3.1 billion as against Taka 4.3 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma (15.7%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (14.3%) and Engineering (11.7%) sectors.

Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Jute (-2.0%), Service (-1.2%) and Paper (-1.1%) exerted the most corrections, while IT (1.6%), Ceramic (0.4%) and Tannery (0.3%) exhibited slight gains on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 116 advanced, 214 declined and 67 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, however, settled on green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) marginally rose by 20.8 and 36.8 points, respectively.
