Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange
(DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price
fall in large-cap securities.
 
DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, declined by 38.2 points to
settle at 5,156 points as against 5,194 points in the previous trading
session.
 
Meanwhile, trading activities remained stagnant with total turnover in DSE
slightly increasing to Taka 3.7 billion as against Taka 3.2 billion in the
previous session.
 
On the sectoral front, Pharma (15.5%) issues exerted the highest turnover,
followed by Bank (13.9%) and Engineering (10.4%) sectors. Most of the sectors
displayed dismal returns, out of which Cement (-2.9%), Services (-2.1%) and
IT (-2.1%) exerted the most corrections, while Miscellaneous (0.5%), Ceramic
(0.5%) and Telecom (0.4%) exhibited some gains on the bourse today.
 
Out of the 397 issues traded, 67 advanced, 280 declined and 50 remained
unchanged.
 
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The Selective
Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 10.7
and 19.2 points, respectively.
