Stocks flat as large-cap issues tumble

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2025 (BSS) - Stock markets today finished the session of the week flat as the major indices of the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed slightly down amid lower activities of large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), lost 4.4 points or 0.1 percent to settle at 5,152 points, as against 5,156 points in the previous trading session.

However, market participation remained stagnant, with market turnover increased slightly by 7.2 percent to Taka 4.0 billion.

On the sectoral front, textile (14.7 percent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Telecom (11.7 percent) and Bank (10.4 percent) sectors.

Most of the sectors displayed negative returns, out of which Financial Institutions (-1.9 percent), Life Insurance (-1.6 percent) and Travel (0.7 percent) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 89 advanced, 243 declined and 65 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a negative session today. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined 19.8 points and 39.0 points, respectively.
