Symposium on White Paper, budget Jan 18

DHAKA, Jan 14, 2025 (BSS) - A day-long symposium titled ‘White Paper and Thereafter: Economic Management, Reforms and National Budget’ will be held in the capital on January 18, 2025.

Under the initiative of White Paper Committee 2024, the symposium is being supported by the Citizens’ Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh, said a press release here.

The “White Paper on the State of the Bangladesh Economy: Dissection of a Development Narrative” published in December 2024 has received a widespread response and is also being discussed both at home and abroad.

Besides, there is a special interest among various stakeholders in the society on how the recommendations of this White Paper can be effectively implemented in the coming days.

In this context, the symposium will discuss the progress of implementing the recommendations of the White Paper and possible ways to address the current economic situation.

In the symposium, members of the White Paper Committee and eminent speakers will share their views on various aspects of the next national budget.

The discussion will be held in three parts: 1) Economic Management and Challenges; 2) Economic Reforms and Institutions; 3) Medium-Term Perspective and Planning.

Advisers to the interim government, senior government officials, political, social and private sector leaders, officials of development partner organizations, researchers and policy analysts will participate in this day-long event.

At the closing session of the event, Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will speak.

The event will be broadcast live on the Facebook and LinkedIn pages of the White Paper Preparation Committee 2024. The event will also be streamed live on the Facebook and YouTube pages of the Citizen’s Platform.
