DHAKA, Jan 14, 2025 (BSS) – Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in partnership with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) today launched a 9.65 million US dollar project to modernize and strengthen the country’s national statistical system.

The initiative aims to integrate advanced ICT technologies to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of BBS in collecting, managing, and analyzing statistical data, a press release issued by the KOICA Bangladesh said today.

The project titled "Capacity Development of Statistics Service Based on Platform" is expected to play a pivotal role in informed decision-making and evidence-based policymaking, crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and realizing the country’s Digital Bangladesh vision.

On the occasion, KOICA Country Director in Bangladesh, Taeyoung Kim, said the project underscores South Korea’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable development.

“By enhancing BBS’s capabilities, we are investing in the long-term development of Bangladesh’s statistical infrastructure, which is vital for achieving the SDGs and realizing Digital Bangladesh,” he said.

KOICA’s continued support highlighted its dedication to promoting data-driven governance, transparency, and public service delivery in Bangladesh, said the release.

This initiative is expected to directly contribute to improved policymaking, accountability, and inclusivity in government operations.

The project is part of KOICA’s broader efforts to assist Bangladesh in achieving sustainable development, good governance, and economic growth.

Its successful implementation will ensure that the country’s statistical services are well-prepared to meet the growing demands of a data-driven future, KOIKA said.
