ICMAB organizes seminar on role of accounting in SDGs

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2025 (BSS) - The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) has organized a seminar titled “Organisational Responses to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bangladesh: Is there a role for accounting?” 

The seminar was held on January 16 at the Ruhul Quddus Auditorium of the ICMA Bhaban in Nilkhet in the capital to disseminate the findings of a research project.

The event brought together distinguished speakers and participants, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, who attended the occasion as chief guest. 

The keynote speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Ataur Rahman Belal, from the Accounting and Sustainability Department of the University of Birmingham, UK, providing thought-provoking insights on the connection between accounting and sustainable development goals (SDGs), said an ICMAB press release today. 

The seminar was chaired by ICMAB president Mr. Mahtab Uddin Ahmed.

The program began with a welcome address by Mohammed Salim, a former ICMAB president and council member.

Professor Dr. Ataur Rahman Belal delivered his keynote presentation, which was followed by an engaging panel discussion led by former ICMAB president and council member, Jamal Ahmed Choudhury.
 
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from ICMAB secretary SM Zahir Uddin Haider.

The session focused on how accounting professionals can support SDGs through better organizational accountability, transparency, and sustainable practices.

The seminar saw substantial participation from ICMAB members and students, reflecting a shared commitment to aligning organizational practices with the SDGs. The event emphasized the crucial role of accounting professionals in driving organizational accountability and sustainable development practices.
