Stocks break losing streak

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2025 (BSS) - Stocks today witnessed an upward trend after showing five days of negative trend as opportunistic investors continued taking positions in the sector specific scrips.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), slightly advanced by 11.2 points to settle at 5,145 points as against 5,134 points in the previous trading session.

Meanwhile, total turnover in DSE edged up by 1.2% to Taka 3.7 billion as against Taka 3.6 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma (19.6%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Textile (10.9%) and Bank (10.2%) sectors.

Most of the sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which General Insurance (3.2%), IT (2.4%) and Life Insurance (1.0%) exhibited the most gains on the bourse today, while Financial Institutions (-1.0%), Jute (-0.9%) and Mutual Fund (-0.7%) exerted some corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 171 advanced, 160 declined and 66 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on green terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 7.0 and 12.5 points, respectively.
