DHAKA, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - Industries and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir today said the Baishakhi Fair is not merely a cultural congregation; rather it is a timely and important initiative for the development of the country's industrial and cultural sectors.
"Among the days that stir the deepest emotions in our lives, the Bengali Nababarsha is one of the most significant," said Muktadir.
The Minister made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a seven-day Baishakhi Fair as a special guest, jointly organized by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Bangla Academy, marking the Bengali New Year 1433 and Chaitra Sankranti, at the Bangla Academy premises.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury was present as the chief guest.
Muktadir said that over the past one and a half decades, there used to be a sense of anxiety every Pahela Baishakh about whether celebrations would proceed normally or if any untoward incident might occur. Today's celebration stands as a testament to how peace-loving, disciplined and orderly the people of this country truly are.
He further said that the country's productivity is not limited to large industries; rather, it is widely spread among rural artisans, small entrepreneurs and home-based production systems.
"Their creativity, labor and innovation form the backbone of the national economy," he said.
He added the contribution of the small, cottage and medium industries sector in Bangladesh's history is very significant, serving as one of the main sources of employment for a large population.
"The Ministry of Industries is working tirelessly to ensure sustainable development of this sector, promote entrepreneurship and create an investment-friendly environment."
The fair will continue until April 20.
