Poet Jasim Uddin’s 122nd birth anniversary observed in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Jan 1, 2025 (BSS) - The 122nd birth anniversary of pastoral poet Jasim Uddin was celebrated in the district in a befitting manner through various programmes.

On the occasion, various social and cultural organizations including the district administration, police administration, Jasim Foundation and others laid wreaths at the grave of the poet at 9:30 am.

Later, a discussion meeting, organized by the district administration, was held at the courtyard of the grave.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamrul Hasan Mollah was present at the discussion as the chief guest while additional deputy commissioner Yasin Kabir presided over it.

It was addressed, among others, by superintendent of police Md. Abdul Jalil, younger son of the poet Khurshid Anwar, cultural figures MA Samad and Mofiz Imam Milon.

A milad mahfil was held at the end of the meeting.

Jasim Uddin was born on this day in 1903 at his grandparent's house in Domrakandi village of Kaijuri union in Faridpur Sadar upazila.

He died in Dhaka on March 14, 1976 at the age of 73.
