One to die for killing wife in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Jan 2, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in Sadar upazila in 2023.

The court also fined convict Uzzal Mahmud 28, son of Md Majnu Miah, a resident of Deuliyabari village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, Taka 50,000, the court sources said.

According to the prosecution, Uzzal Mahmud used to torture his wife, Tahmina, over dowry. After two months of their marriage, Uzzal tortured and killed his wife on April 18.

After the incident, Md Ibrahim Khalil, father of the victim, filed a murder case with Jamalpur Sadar police station.

Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, after examining 15 witnesses and relevant documents, found him guilty and pronounced the verdict.

The court also acquitted 12 accused of the case as the charge brought against them was not proved.
