DU Pharmacy department holds freshers' reception

DHAKA, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Pharmacy at Dhaka University (DU) today organized a reception ceremony to welcome the first-year undergraduate students of the 2024-2025 academic session.

The event was held at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium, with Department Chairman Professor Dr. Zakir Ahmed Chowdhury in the chair.

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof Dr. Md. Selim Reza, Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology Prof Dr. Muhammad Rashedul Islam, and Chairman of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology Prof Dr. Sheikh Zahir Raihan, among others, spoke at the event.

Convener of the organizing committee Prof Md. Aslam Hossain delivered the welcome address, while freshers Tanukhi Islam and Bayezid Al Mahmud expressed their feelings on behalf of the new students.

In her speech, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha congratulated the newly admitted students, noting that pharmacy education is intimately linked to human well-being. 

She highlighted the department's significant role in the advancement of the country's pharmaceutical industry and urged students to contribute to the development of Bangladesh's health sector.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed underscored the importance of strengthening the industry-academia partnership to enhance the department's global reputation. 

He also encouraged students to keep pace with technological progress to meet emerging global challenges.
