THAKURGAON, Jan 26, 2025 (BSS) - Farmers of Thakurgaon Sugar Mills observed Field Day-2025 titled "Cultivation of profitable sugarcane companion crops and advance sugarcane cultivation with modern technology' at the mill today.

On the occasion, a farmers' gathering was held this afternoon at the east gate of the sugar mill.

Managing Director of Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Limited Shahjahan Kabir was present at the meeting as the chief guest with its General Manager (Agriculture) Abu Raihan in the chair.

BFIC General Manager (Mills Farm) Mohammad Shahid Ullah, along with mill officials, sugarcane farmers and union leaders, were present, among others.

According to the current market situation of the farmers, sugarcane cultivation is proving to be a very profitable crop day by day, the speakers said.

Citing the example of farmer Shahjahan Ali's agricultural field, they said five types of crops-- potato, onion, garlic, lentils and tomato-- have been cultivated successfully in this field as companion crops of sugarcane.

Even in advanced sugarcane cultivation, farmers earn good profits by harvesting it twice a year in different varieties.

Due to the repeated increasing price by the sugar mills, sugarcane cultivation can bring assured prosperity to the farmers compared to other crops.
