CHATTOGRAM, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested two alleged robbers who intruded into a house and attempted to commit a dacoity  by keeping house owner hostage in the city’s Panchliash area this afternoon.

The arrested were identified as Bayezid and Akash.

Police said three persons including Bayezid and Akash entered a flat at the second floor of Al-Hidayah International School building at O. R. Nizam Road under Panchlaish police station in the city on Tuesday afternoon and kept hostage the flat owner Lokman Hakim. At one stage, they stabbed him when Lokam started screaming and tried to call police.

Hearing hue and cry from inside the house, neighbors called police and a team of police along with Joint forces rushed to the spot and arrested two persons with the help of local people while another one escaped from the scene. CMP commissioner Hasib Aziz also reached the spot to lead the operation.

Quoting victim Lokman, police said that the criminals worked as assistants of the owner of the building. Lokman Hakim is son-in-law of leading businessman late Abul Khair, the founder of Abul Khayer Group and  former managing director of Eastern Refinery Limited.

Hasib Aziz told journalists that police arrested two persons and another one escaped from the scene.

Investigation and efforts to arrest escapee have been continuing to unearth the real motive behind the crime attempt on broad daylight.

He said police had to use sound grenades to bring the situation under control and to ensure safe rescue of Lokman who was kept hostage inside a bathroom.
