CHATTOGRAM, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram District Bar Association (CDBA) election has been postponed and will not be held on February 10 following en masse resignation of all members of Election Commission including its chairman.

In a letter to CDBA President and General Secretary, Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Mohammad Solaiman and other members of the body submitted their resignation this afternoon.

The election conducting officials mentioned in the letter that although they have completed all preparation to hold the election free and fair manner but prevailing tense and troublesome situation between both contesting camps over deployment of law enforcers and armed forces as well as protest against participation of fascist allies in the polls have created a chaotic atmosphere, which poses a serious threat to hold the election smoothly.

Talking to BSS, CDBA President Advocate Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, said, “Scheduled election of the association will not be held on February 10 following the resignation of election conducting officials. Now, according to the constitution, we are going to call a general meeting on February 11 next and decision to form ad-hoc committee will be taken there.”

Besides, a meeting of existing committee will be held tomorrow to review the latest development and to take other necessary decision, he added.

CDBA sources said a total of 40 candidates are vying for the posts of 21 office-bearers, including 11 executive committee members. CDBA has 5,404 registered members.
