MANIKGANJ, Feb,5, 2025 (BSS) - Ferry services on the ARICHA-Kazirhat route resumed this morning after an 7-hour suspension due to dense fog, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) sources said.

Md. Abdullah, Manager of BIWTC Aricha Ghat, said that ferry movement was halted from 2.00 am to 9.00 am today (Wednesday) due to poor visibility, as the heavy fog obscured navigation lights along the river channel.

During this suspension six ferries- Shah Ali, Dhan Shiri, Chitra , Khan Jahan Ali, Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman and Kishani were waiting at the ghat. At 9 am the ferry movement became normal when the dense fog disappeared, the sources said.

Meanwhile BIWTC Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager (DGM) Nasir Mahmud Chowdhury said the ferry movement between Paturia-Daulatdia river routes resumed after 5 hours suspension for poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river bed of the Padma.

Five ferries- Golam Maula, Shah Enayetpuri, Gouri, Bonolota and Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin were at Paturia Ghat and six ferries Farid pur, Bir Shreshtha Jahangir, Shah Poran, Shaheed Borkot, Bir Shreshtha Motiur and Kopoti were waiting at Paturia Ghat during the suspension period, DGM added.

However, by 7.40 AM on Wednesday, ferry movement had returned to normal, the DGM said.
