MYMENSINGH, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 11 lawyers from the district have been acquitted in a Digital Security Act (DSA) case.

Mymensingh Cyber Tribunal Judge Runa Nahid Akhtar today acquitted Advocate M Nurul Haque, former president of the district bar association and vice-president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Osman Gani Mallick Makhon, Mahbubur Rashid Tamanna, Abul Kalam Azad, Ariful Islam Sohag, Raisul Islam, Tofazzal Hossain, Ahsan Ullah Anar, Zahirul Islam and Shamsunnahar of all the charges.

Cyber Tribunal Bench Assistant Rabiul Alam Chowdhury said that in September last year, Advocate Abul Kalam Muhammad Azad, member secretary of the district branch of the Bangabandhu Awami Lawyers Council, filed a case with Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station for allegedly raising slogans against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the court premises.

Earlier, Advocate Osman Gani Mallick Makhon and Tofazzal Hossain were imprisoned for over two months in connection with the case.

Reacting to the verdict, Advocate Nurul Haque said, "It was a politically motivated, false, and harassing case. An attempt was made to destroy the 150-year-long tradition of the Mymensingh District Bar Association. Today, justice has been established."
