Awami League leader arrested in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 6, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested Sohel Rana Soni, a member of the Rangpur district Awami League convening committee and a former central leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League here today. 
 
"Sohel Rana Soni was arrested from the Babupara Ashratpur area of the city on Thursday evening," Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tajhat police station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Md Shah Alam told BSS at 8:35 pm.Sohel Rana Soni had gone into hiding after August 5. There are multiple criminal cases against him. 
 
"Soni has been arrested in a case filed by Omar Farooq, who was critically injured in police firing in the anti-discrimination student movement in the city on July 19," the OC said, adding that he will be produced before a Rangpur court tomorrow.
