CHANDPUR, Feb 11, 2025 (BSS)-Five leaders and activists of Sramik League and banned Chhatra League, who surrendered to the court in connection with a case filed during the July uprising, were sent to jail today. 

Senior District and Sessions Judge Shamsunnahar passed an order to send them to jail after they surrendered to the court seeking bail. 

The accused are Mahin Uddin, 25; Rasel alias Goda Rasel, 30; Suku alias Shukur Alam, 48; Ador Kashri, 20; and Raihan Kashri, 25. 

According to the case documents, the arrestees on August 4, 2024 demanded extortion to a business establishment at Hajiganj East Bazar and attacked its employees as they refused to pay the money to them.

They also vandalized the shop and looted valuables worth about Taka 15,876,710 from the shop.
 
On August 20, Mizanur Rahman Selim, owner of the business establishment, filed a case with Hajiganj Police Station accusing 74 named and 100 to 150 unnamed persons in this connection.

Earlier on January 6, the High Court granted them a six-week ad interim bail.
