SHARIATPUR, Feb 24, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has reiterated his party’s demand for immediate release of Jamaat’s former acting secretary general ATM Azharul Islam.

He raised the demand while speaking at a street rally at the Quran Square in front of Vedarganj Upazila Parishad here today.

"Our 11 party leaders have been taken out from our chest . . . One of our top leaders ATM Azharul Islam is still alive. He is in jail with false cases,” Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said.

He posed a question to the government, “Why he is still in jail? He was implicated with false cases; Awami League resorted to repression on him and subsequently confined him in the jail.”

“We have been oppressed for the last 15 and half years, we have been protesting to remove the fascist government. We the politicians couldn't do that. But the students and people have done it successfully,” Dr Shafiqur said.

"I want two things from youth, one is deep patriotism and the other is fear of Allah. If the youth comes forward with these two things, they will be able to destroy any conspiracy,” he added.

District unit of Jamat Nayeb-e-Amir KM Maqbul Hossain presided over the rally.

Among others, assistant secretary general AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, district amir Principal Muhammad Abdur Rab Hashemi, treasurer of Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation Muhammad Azharul Islam also present there.

The Jamaat Amir later visited the house of movement’s martyred student Hafez Belal and offered fatha at his graveyard there.
