KHULNA, April 16, 2025 (BSS) - Railway communication between Khulna and the rest of the country resumed after a three-hour suspension caused by a student demonstration demanding reforms in the diploma engineering education system.

Students from four polytechnic institutes in Khulna staged a protest this morning, blocking the Rupsha Express shortly after it left Khulna Railway Station around 9:15am.

The train was halted at Boyra Junction, leading to a disruption of train services across the country.

Due to the blockade, several other trains including the Dhaka-bound Chitra Express, Rocket and Mahananda Express were held up at Khulna Station.

Later, the students called off their protest around 12:20pm after receiving assurances from the district administration. Train operations resumed shortly afterward, according to Khulna Railway Station Master Zakir Hossain.

Md. Hanif Akash, a student from the Electrical Department at Khulna Polytechnic Institute, said, "We lifted the blockade after getting assurance from the administration. But this time, we expect action, not just promises."

The students' six-point demands include canceling illegal promotions of Craft Instructors, introducing age limits for diploma engineering admissions, recruitment against reserved posts for diploma graduates, ensuring lab facilities at private polytechnics, to stop excessive fees in private institutes and providing financial support for industrial attachments.
