DHAKA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) – Candidates, who are contesting in the Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) polls this year, are seen campaigning at different places on the campus today seeking votes of the students as the campaign has officially begun this morning as per schedule.
Candidates launched their election campaign from different places on the campus to reach out the voters.
‘Protirodh Porshod’ (Resistance Union), the left leaning student alliance led by Sheik Tasnif Afroze Emi started campaign from the central Shahid Minar at 10 am this morning while ‘Sotantro Shikhsarthi Oikko’ (Independent Student Alliance), a panel led by former Chhatra Federation leader Umama Fatema from Jagannath hall by placing floral wreath at the Jagannath Hall ‘killing ground’ (Badhyabhumi) and the United Student Alliance, led by former DU Shibir President Abu Shadik from DU Central Mosque after Zohr prayer.
‘Sammanita Shikharthe Sangsad’ panel (Integrated Student Sangsad) led by Jamal Uddin Khalid as VP and former NCP leader Mahin Sarkar as GS started their campaign from a rally on the campus.
Besides, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has started election campaign from the VC chatter afterwards, Anti-Discrimination Students Alliance led by former coordinator and Bangladesh Democratic Student Alliance (BDSA) Abdul Kader started campaign whilst independent candidates started the campaign from central library area.
From the morning campus turned vibrant and candidates were seen approaching students seeking votes and prayers. Panel members were also seen setting up placards, festoon and banners in different places of the campus.
Visiting Mall (Marlo) Chattor, TSC premises and other areas on the campus, it have been found that candidates interacting with the voters and trying to persuade them by assuring them of a better campus with better facilities.
Since the beginning of the campaign, a major violation of code of conduct have been reported following an incident of vandalizing backdrop board of Shibir backed-United Student Alliance panel and distorting their images at the Fine Arts faculty this noon.
Protesting this, the panel staged an emergency press conference at the gate of Fine Arts Faculty this afternoon and lodged complaint to the Chief Returning officer to this end.
Speaking at the press conference Abu Shadik said, from the incident some people trying to draw a conclusion making us confront the students of Fine Arts faculty.
“We want to say that this incident has no relation with the common students of fine arts faculty. Those who did it are the collaborators of the fallen fascist,” he added demanding justice.
Referring to the incident the Chief Returning Officer said they are looking into the matter.
On the other hand, Sir A F Rahman Hall Union General Secretary Candidate Ashikul Haque Rifat filed a complaint to the Chief Returning Officer accusing JCD VP candidate Abidul Islam Khan of spreading misinformation against him.
