KHULNA, April 16, 2025 (BSS) - Two former students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) filed separate cases against 15 individuals, including the university's former Vice-Chancellor (VC) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, over violent assaults that occurred on the campus in 2017.

The case was filed with Khan Jahan Ali Police Station on Monday for brutal attacks on then-students Lutfur Rahman and Mahdi Hasan inside KUET residential halls.

According to Kabir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khan Jahan Ali Police Station, Lutfur Rahman was violently assaulted on May 1, 2017, inside the guest room of Lalon Shah Hall, resulting in severe injuries, including damage to both kidneys.

On the same night, Mahdi Hasan was also attacked, suffering serious injuries, including significant damage to one of his eyes, the OC added.

Earlier, the two victims submitted a petition to a Khulna court on February 16, 2025. After reviewing the plea, the court directed police to register the cases formally.

In Lutfur Rahman's case, the accused include former KUET VC Prof Dr Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, former Pro-VC Dr Sobhan Mia, former registrar GM Shahidul Islam, as well as several former leaders of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) KUET unit, such as ex-president Safayet Hossain Nayon and ex-general secretary Ali Imtiaz Sohan.

Mahdi Hasan's case names many of the same individuals, along with other BCL activists from Bangabandhu Hall. These include Abir Swapnil, Tashrif Saleh Rahul, Faisal, Mosharur Alam Kaushik, Asaduzzaman Riyan and former KUET BCL general secretary Sadman Nahiyan Sejan.
