CHUADANGA, April 18, 2025 (BSS) - Two people, including the driver of a motorized van, were killed early this morning when a passenger bus hit their vehicle in the Noy Mile area on the Chuadanga-Jhenaidah highway here.

The deceased were identified as Sarwar Khondaker, 50, a rice trader from Kutubpur village in Chuadanga sadar upazila and son of Ismail Khondaker Sarwar, and van driver Razzak, 65, son of Moksed, from the same village.

According to eyewitnesses, Sarwar was heading to Sarojganj market to buy rice, riding a motorized "pakhi van" (a local engine-run vehicle) driven by Razzak.

Their van was rammed from behind by a Dhaka-bound passenger bus in the area at around 5:30am, leaving them dead on the spot, the sources added.

Locals immediately informed the police and fire service.

Police later recovered the bodies and sent those to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue.

Sarwar's nephew, Biplob Hossain, said, "My uncle had finished his Fajr prayers and was heading to the market for business. The speeding bus hit them and fled the scene. We rushed to the spot after hearing the news and took the bodies to the hospital."

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident.
