850 kg of crabs seized in Sundarbans

KHULNA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized 850 kilograms of crabs from the Sundarbans in an operation conducted yesterday afternoon.

Lt Commander Muntasir Ibne Mohsin, media officer of the BCG South West Zone, confirmed the matter to BSS today.

On information, a team from the Koyra Coast Guard Station conducted the drive at Gharial Bazar, adjacent to the Koptakha Ghat River in Koyra upazila, Khulna.

During the operation, the Coast Guard members seized the crabs worth around Tk 3.83 lakh from an engine-run trawler. However, the persons involved in the illegal poaching managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of law enforcement personnel.

The seized crabs were later handed over to the Kobadak Forest Station, Lt Commander Mohsin said.

He also added that BCG will continue regular drives to protect the country's marine and forest resources.
