JHENAIDAH, April 18, 2025 (BSS) – A truck helper was killed when a parked truck overturned during a tyre change in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district last night.

The deceased was identified as Ashraful Islam, 45, a resident of Shikarpur village in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila.

Quoting witnesses, police said the tragic incident occurred around 8:30 pm on Thursday night at the Kaliganj bus stand in Jhenaidah town.

The truck driver, who sustained serious injuries, was admitted to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.

The fertilizer-laden truck was heading towards Jhenaidah. When it reached in front of a mosque near the Kaliganj Main Bus Stand on the Jhenaidah-Jashore highway, a rear tyre got punctured. The driver and helper began replacing it.

During the repair, the jack slipped, causing the truck to overturn, leaving both the driver and the helper trapped underneath. 

Locals rushed to the scene and recovered helper Ashraful Islam’s body.

The injured driver was rescued and taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital. His name could not be known immediately.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said the body has been sent to the morgue at Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, and the driver is currently undergoing treatment.
