CHATTOGRAM, April 19, 2025 (BSS)- The body of a six-month old baby girl was
rescued this morning from the city's Chaktai canal, almost 14 hours after she
went missing when a battery-run auto-rickshaw fell into an open drain amid
strong water flow in the port city's Kapasgola area.

"The incident took place around 8:30 pm yesterday near Nawab Hotel in the
area. Local people spotted the body of the baby girl named Sehris in the
canal, four kilometres off the spot she had drowned," said Anwar Hossain,
assistant director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Being informed, divers from local Fire Service and Civil Defence and members
of Bangladesh Army recovered the body from the canal and handed her over to
the local police station later.

The fire service official said the rickshaw, carrying a woman and her baby
girl, lost control and plunged into the roadside sewer, which had a strong
current following rainfall. The baby was swept away by the water while the
woman managed to save herself.

"Firefighters from the Chandanpura unit rushed to the spot and conducted
search operations. Due to the strong current in the drain after rain, the
baby got washed away," Anwar Hossain added.
