Couple held for trespassing border illegally

BRAHMANBARIA, April 26, 2025 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a couple while they were attempting to enter India illegally through Kauhati border of Bijoynagar upazila of the district.

The arrestees were identified as Gautam Chandra Das, 55, son of the late Adhir Chandra Das from Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district and his wife Kabita Rani Das, 45.

BGB said, Gautam Chandra Das's father-in-law's house is in Agartala, India. His mother-in-law had recently passed away, and they were attempting to go to Agartala illegally to attend her Shradh (post-death ritual).

Lieutenant Colonel Farah Mohammad Imtiaz, Commander of BGB-25 Battalion, said, patrol team of the area arrested the couple as they were trying to enter into India illegally.

Preparations are underway to take legal action against them, he said.
