Body of missing stone worker recovered in Sylhet

SYLHET, April 27, 2025 (BSS) - Police this morning recovered the body of a stone worker who went missing after a stone-laden boat capsized in the Jaflong area under Gowainghat upazila of the district.

The deceased was identified as Sajal Mia, 34, son of Islam Uddin from Chaturbhuj village in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district.

Gowainghat Thana police recovered the body from the Zero Point area of Jaflong.

Earlier, on Thursday (April 24), a group of workers went to collect stones from the prohibited Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) of the Jaflong stone quarry. On their return journey, the boat carrying Sajal and others sank.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gowainghat Thana, Abdur Rakib Khan, confirmed the matter, saying the body will be handed over to the family after completing the post-mortem.
